On 17 February 2008, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that the Government had decided to take Northern Rock into a period of public ownership. The necessary legislation for this was passed so that the Ordinary, Preference and Foundation Shares of Northern Rock were transferred to the Treasury Solicitor on 22 February 2008.
Following a legal and capital restructure, the bank split into two separate entities; Northern Rock (Asset Management) plc and Northern Rock plc.
Further details on public ownership can be found in the statements below. Please note: these items pre-date the company restructure of 01 January 2010.
